Greens, and more Greens.

I am not sure about these two works. I enjoyed doing them, but I struggle so profoundly with greens. The photographic references I used come from a challenge blog, Daily Paintworks, and I am not sure whether or not to send them in. The photographs to work from were deceptively simple, and I knew that as soon as I saw them, but I responded to taking out the oils again after a long time and hoped for something better than I have produced here. I have been painting in gouache for a few months now and I notice that I have lost my "touch" with oils. Another annoying part of this process is that I just could not get the colour of the blue sky photographed accurately - it's much deeper. I think I'll just live with these for another day or so, and then probably make some adjustments here and there before taking the plunge and sending them in.

Anne, I think these are wonderful and I like those greens. The distant tree line in the top piece is the perfect color, and the sunniness of the second is a delight!

Like most artists, you are too hard on yourself. I like both these paintings with their different greens and ambiance. The first has a mellow, serene feel to it like late afternoon; the second is rich with vibrant colors of a sunny day. Nice work.

Thanks for the encouragement Jean - it's much appreciated. :-)

They're beautiful Anne. There's a thing about sky, it is darker at the top and gets progressively lighter....until it meets the land, try that, u may find that is what is bothering you.

I can see a painting on my blog that I just love, but I can't get to it, what the heck????? when I click on it it tells me it doesn't exist... did you delete it? it's a country sketch or something like that.... Charlotte

Thanks Charlotte - yeah, the sky. I noticed that darkness at the top in a few landscapes I've been looking at lately, but the photography just didn't capture the deeper blue no matter what I tried, but thanks for the reminder.

The other work you see has now been saved as a draft. I uploaded the wrong photo then couldn't find the right one!!! Senior person moment. The one you see is an interim phase. Will take pic again on weekend. :-) :-)

Hah! I came to ask about the same thing Charlotte asked. Glad I'm not the only one with "senior moments"! LOL I prefer to pretend that we all have those, no matter the age!

Awww Charlotte, I laughed out loud when I read your comment. What a compliment to be chivvied for such a weird little landscape! I will post it on Friday night. The light isn't good enough to photograph now and I want to do one more thing to it. See you soon. :-) :-) This is getting to be an epic commenting session. Love it.
